Police say the suspect was arrested Monday after investigators gathered additional evidence through multiple search warrants.
PAGE, Ariz. — Two people were found dead from apparent gunshot wounds inside a Page home late Sunday night, and investigators arrested a suspect the following day after an expanding investigation led police to file two first-degree murder charges.
The case remains under active investigation as authorities continue processing evidence and reviewing information gathered through several search warrants. Page police say the suspect is in custody and the firearm believed to have been used has been recovered. Officials said they do not believe there is any continuing threat to the community, although investigators indicated that additional charges could still be filed as the case develops.
Officers with the Page Police Department responded shortly after 11:30 p.m. Sunday to a residence near 9th Avenue and El Camino Court after receiving reports that two people had been shot inside the home. When officers arrived, they discovered a man and a woman who had both died from what police described as apparent gunshot wounds. No suspect was at the residence when officers reached the scene. Investigators immediately secured the area while Page police and deputies from the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office began documenting evidence and obtaining a search warrant for the home. Police said evidence collected during the initial examination identified a person of interest. Detectives later located and interviewed that individual, but authorities said the person was not immediately arrested or charged while investigators continued gathering evidence.
According to Page police, the investigation expanded through additional search warrants and continued forensic work after the initial interview. Authorities said the new evidence strengthened the case and shifted the person of interest to a criminal suspect. On Monday, officers arrested the suspect and booked him into jail on two counts of first-degree murder. Police have not yet publicly identified the suspect or released the names of the victims. Investigators also have not disclosed what relationship, if any, existed between the suspect and the victims or whether a motive has been established. Officials emphasized that the investigation remains active and that detectives continue collecting evidence, interviewing witnesses and reviewing the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Police said more criminal charges remain possible depending on the results of the ongoing investigation.
The investigation has involved multiple law enforcement agencies. Page police credited the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office with assisting throughout the response and follow-up investigation. Authorities said investigators recovered the weapon believed to have been used in the shooting, a development they cited when announcing there is no known ongoing danger to residents. Even with an arrest, detectives continue to examine physical evidence recovered from the residence and other locations connected to the investigation. Officials have not released information about what led officers to focus on the suspect or what evidence was collected through the search warrants. They also have not indicated whether anyone else may have been present at the home before or after the shooting occurred. Police have asked anyone with information related to the case to contact investigators as they continue building the case.
The arrest marks a significant step in the investigation, but prosecutors and investigators still have additional work ahead before the case moves further through the criminal justice system. First-degree murder charges generally require prosecutors to prove an intentional or premeditated killing or another circumstance defined by Arizona law. Detectives are expected to continue reviewing evidence, conducting interviews and completing forensic testing before presenting the case for prosecution. Authorities have not announced when the suspect will make an initial court appearance or whether prosecutors intend to pursue additional counts. Police have also not released details about the victims’ identities pending notification procedures or explained what events immediately preceded the shooting. As the investigation continues, officials say they will release more information when it can be disclosed without affecting the case.
By Monday evening, investigators remained at work assembling the timeline that led to the deadly shooting. The quiet residential neighborhood became the focus of a large police response overnight as detectives photographed the scene, executed search warrants and interviewed potential witnesses. While many questions remain unanswered, police said the investigation progressed quickly enough to identify and arrest a suspect within roughly a day of the shooting. Officials again thanked assisting agencies for their support and reiterated that they do not believe residents face any continuing public safety threat related to the incident. Detectives continue encouraging anyone with information that could assist the investigation to come forward.
The suspect remains in custody on two counts of first-degree murder while detectives continue their investigation. Authorities say additional evidence is still being reviewed, and further charges remain possible as the case moves toward prosecution.
