A 21-year-old Florida woman was apprehended at Miami International Airport earlier this month following allegations of her claiming to possess a bomb and attempting to evacuate women and children while insisting men stay put. The woman, identified as Aliyah Evans, was charged with a felony for falsely reporting about placing a bomb or explosive and a misdemeanor for disorderly conduct.
The incident occurred on July 1, 2025, around 5:51 a.m. at the JetBlue ticket counter at Miami-Dade International. According to affidavits from the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, Evans was reported to have claimed she had a bomb in her carry-on luggage. Witnesses reported hearing and seeing her make this claim while holding her cellphone, which displayed what seemed to be a clock timer. She was also heard saying, “I need children and women to leave and for men to stay.”
Evans then left her carry-on bag, which she claimed contained a bomb, on the floor in front of the counter. She tried to bypass other passengers in line and make her way through Checkpoint E. A Transportation Security Administration (TSA) manager and several agents with Customs and Border Protection (CBP) who were on duty in the area noticed the disturbance, responded, and detained Evans.
Sheriff’s deputies arrived shortly after and interacted with the CBP agents and Evans. They described her behavior as erratic, noting that she was yelling and screaming as they tried to gather basic information from her. A bomb squad and explosives K-9 were brought in to search Evans’ carry-on bag and her person, but no evidence of a bomb was found.
In addition to the bomb threat, Evans was also accused of causing disruption and disarray in the airport by knocking over various lane extenders. This action reportedly instilled fear in travelers and employees and caused delays due to the time it took to apprehend her and clear her belongings.
Following the incident, Evans was taken to the sheriff’s office for questioning. She chose to exercise her right to remain silent. She was then processed at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in Miami. After posting a bond of $150, Evans was released. She is set to appear in court for her arraignment on July 31. Circuit Judge Ricker Wolfson has also barred Evans from visiting Miami International Airport.
