Police said the woman’s death appeared accidental and that investigators found no indication of foul play or a public threat.
FOLSOM, Calif. — A woman was found dead in a fountain at a Folsom shopping center early Monday, prompting a police investigation that continued for several hours before detectives said her death likely resulted from an accident.
Officers and detectives responded at about 6 a.m. July 13 to the 2700 block of East Bidwell Street near Broadstone Parkway, according to the Folsom Police Department. The address is within Broadstone Marketplace, a shopping center containing restaurants, stores and other businesses.
Police initially advised the public that officers were investigating near a business in the area. The department said there was no information suggesting a danger to nearby residents, employees or customers.
Investigators later determined that the adult woman’s death was likely accidental, police said in an afternoon update. Detectives found no indication of foul play, though authorities did not release details about the circumstances that led to her death.
Police vehicles were seen near a water fountain at the shopping center. A manager at a veterinary clinic near the fountain told CBS Sacramento that investigators remained at the scene until about 9:30 a.m. The police activity did not disrupt the clinic’s business, the manager said.
The woman’s name, age and place of residence had not been released. Police said the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office would disclose her identity after officials confirmed it and notified her family.
Authorities also did not say who reported the body, how long the woman may have been in the fountain or whether anyone witnessed the events leading to her death. No additional circumstances were immediately available.
The coroner’s office is responsible for determining the official cause and manner of death by examining the body, the scene and other evidence. A police finding that the death appears accidental does not replace the coroner’s final determination.
No arrests were announced, and police said the investigation had uncovered no evidence of criminal activity. Additional information had not been released as of Tuesday.
