Woman Sets Fire to Porch When No One Answered

Burlington, Iowa – An Iowa woman is facing charges after allegedly starting a fire on the porch of a residence she mistakenly believed belonged to her friend. Michelle Young, 46, was taken into custody on Tuesday for reckless use of fire and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The incident occurred in Burlington, Iowa, when a homeowner received a motion alert from her security camera and contacted the police. Upon arrival, authorities found Young at the scene. Initially claiming to be visiting a friend, she later admitted to starting the fire. The Burlington Fire Department quickly extinguished the flames, and the property sustained minimal damage.

During a search, Young was found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia, resulting in an additional misdemeanor charge. According to reports, Young explained to the police that she had been wandering the area, collecting random items, and mistakenly believed the house belonged to her friend.

Young stated that after receiving no response when knocking on the front door, she noticed a sign reading “Witches Welcome.” Identifying herself as a witch, she decided to set some clothing and the gathered items on fire. She emphasized that her intention was not to cause harm or damage to the property.

Young is currently being held at the Des Moines County Jail on a $5,000 bond. Her preliminary court hearing is scheduled for March 29.
