LOS ANGELES, CA – A woman was fatally shot in a drive-by attack near an elementary school in East Los Angeles, prompting a search for the shooter by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Lexus Gutierrez, 22, was sitting in a car with her friends on January 21 when she was inexplicably shot in the head from another vehicle, according to authorities and family members.
The shooting took place in the morning, while Gutierrez was seated in the passenger’s seat. The driver of the vehicle was also shot in the hand, while another passenger escaped unharmed.
The Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department is currently conducting an investigation into the shooting. They believe the shots were fired from a Honda SUV and are relying on the two surviving passengers to help identify the suspects.
In response to the tragic incident, Gutierrez’s family has set up a GoFundMe to collect donations.
During an interview with a local news outlet, Gutierrez’s aunt, Patricia Ramirez, pleaded with the unidentified shooter(s) to turn themselves in. Ramirez acknowledged that it won’t bring Gutierrez back but emphasized that it would bring some form of closure for her grieving mother.
Law enforcement officials are committed to finding the perpetrator(s) responsible for this devastating act and holding them accountable.
