General Hospital Actor Shot Dead in Downtown LA

LOS ANGELES — Actor Johnny Wactor, known for his role in the soap opera “General Hospital,” was shot and killed in downtown Los Angeles early Saturday morning while confronting a group of thieves attempting to steal a valuable car part.

Wactor, 37, and a colleague encountered three masked suspects allegedly trying to remove a catalytic converter from his car around 3:30 a.m., according to reports from TMZ and law enforcement sources. Despite not putting up a fight, Wactor was shot by one of the robbers before they fled the scene in a vehicle.

Authorities confirmed that Wactor confronted the suspects and was later pronounced dead at the hospital. As of Sunday afternoon, no suspects have been arrested.

The actor, best known for his portrayal of Brando Corbin in the long-running soap opera “General Hospital,” appeared in over 160 episodes between 2020 and 2022. Wactor also had roles in shows such as “Siberia,” “Army Wives,” and “Criminal Minds.”

Fellow actors expressed their shock and grief over Wactor’s tragic death. Jon Lindstrom, who worked with Wactor in “General Hospital,” described him as a kind and humble individual who shared his talent with the world. Actress Nancy Lee Grahn, another cast member of the soap, expressed sadness over the shooting.

Catalytic converter thefts, which can fetch high prices on the black market, have seen a significant increase in recent years. These devices play a crucial role in reducing toxic emissions from vehicles while containing valuable metals.

Authorities continue to investigate the shooting, urging anyone with information to come forward.
