University Student Shot Dead Waiting for Uber

TUCSON, Ariz. – An off-campus party in Tucson turned deadly when a University of Arizona student was fatally shot on Sunday, April 28. The incident, which occurred around 1:40 a.m., also left three others injured.

Authorities responded to multiple 911 calls reporting the shooting on the 3200 block of E. 5th St. Officers discovered 20-year-old Erin Jones, a student at the University of Arizona, outside the residence. She had been waiting for an Uber when she was shot and was later pronounced dead at Banner University Medical Center.

A woman found in a vehicle, a teenage individual, and an adult male were also transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting. The Tucson Police Department is actively investigating the incident, but details regarding the motive are still unclear. It is believed that a large gathering took place before the shooting, and several witnesses had already left the area by the time authorities arrived.

Erin Jones was a well-known student at Corona Del Mar High School, where she had played on the soccer team. The news of her tragic death has deeply affected her community. Soccer coach Bryan Middleton described her as a passionate player and a kind and inclusive teammate.
