Bodycam shows Arizona officers stand by while man drowns, begs for help – New York Post

Police were responding to a reported disturbance between a couple when one of the people jumped into the lake. The police told the man not to swim in the lake, but the man took a few strokes out from the shore before he drowned.

A 12-minute video shows police talking to Sean Bickings and his wife near the Tempe City of the Arts and the Tempe Town Lake on May 28. Bickings told police he planned to drown in the lake.

Bickings was allegedly trying to escape arrest by swimming. When he was unable to swim to a nearby pylon when he was instructed to do so, an officer told him he wouldn’t be helped and that another officer was getting a boat.

The woman he was with told the officers to save Bickings when she saw that he hadn’t swam to the surface in too long of a time. She tried to jump off the railing to save the man, but was stopped by police.

A police body-cam video shows Sean Bickings talking to officers before he jumped into Tempe Town Lake. The video cuts out before Bickings is heard struggling in the water.

Jealous Girlfriend Runs Over Boyfriend With Her Car In A Fit Of Rage

Indiana woman allegedly kills guy pal after using AirTags to track him – New York Post

Indy Champions director Danyette Smith said domestic violence calls to IMPD have gone down, but there has been one noticeable increase: males calling about female suspects.

A woman was charged with murder after she allegedly followed a man she said was her boyfriend to a bar using an Apple AirTag, accused him of cheating on her and ran him over with her car.

Gaylyn Morris, 26, followed Andre Smith to Tilly’s Pub, where she told a witness she was going to beat up the other woman. Morris allegedly picked up an empty bottle and threatened to beat up the woman.

Smith was able to get between the two women and prevent a fight between them.

Despite the other woman being spared, Morris did intentionally run Smith over and killed him in the parking lot of a north side pub.

AirTags are coin-sized devices that use Bluetooth technology to help users locate lost items, but can also be used to track people.

Apple’s AirTag has been the subject of controversy since its introduction. Various lawmakers have tried to prevent their use as stalking devices.

The family of the victim want to remind others that resources are available to help prevent domestic violence before it turns deadly.

3D-Printed Body Parts May Be The Next Frontier Of Modern Medicine

A surgically implanted, 3D-printed ear marks a medical advance – NBC News

A 20-year-old woman who was born with a small and misshapen right ear received a 3-D printed ear implant made from her own cells. The new ear will continue to regenerate cartilage tissue, giving it the look and feel of a natural ear.

The patient’s ear implant was made from a tiny glob of cells harvested from her misshapen ear. It could be used to make many other body parts, including spinal discs, noses, knee menisci, rotator cuffs and reconstructive tissue for lumpectomies.

A 3-D printer creates a solid, three-dimensional object from a digital model by depositing material in thin layers. It uses a collagen-based “bio ink” that keeps the materials sterile.

Outside experts said it was the first time that 3D-printed tissue had been implanted into a human body. The success could open doors for investment and new excitement around 3D tissue printing.

The surgeon removed half of a gram of cartilage from the woman’s microtia ear remnant, shipped it to the 3DBio building in Long Island City, Queens, and mixed it with collagen-based bio-ink to create a small oblong shape. The ear was implanted under the patient’s skin.

3DBio has announced the results of a clinical trial to further develop the 3D-printing process. The trial has included 11 volunteers ages 6 to 25 to evaluate long-term safety and aesthetic outcomes.

The company has not publicly disclosed the technical details of the process, making it more difficult for outside experts to evaluate.

New Study Links Your Walking Speed With Signs Of Dementia

Your walking speed could indicate dementia – CNN

A study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association suggests simple memory and walking-speed testing could help doctors identify people at risk of dementia and introduce preventive measures early on.

People who walk slowly and exhibit signs of slower mental processing are more likely to develop dementia, according to this large study of nearly 17,000 adults over age 65.

The study followed a group of American and Australian seniors for seven years. It asked them to walk 3 meters twice every other year.

A slowed gait is defined as walking at a speed 0.05 meters per second slower each year. Participants with a slowed gait were at a greater risk of developing dementia.

The study tested participants’ gait and cognitive rate every two years, and also studied their delayed free call, processing speed and verbal fluency.

The study explained that cognitive decline is strongly associated with dementia, but that a combined gait-cognition measure provides additional benefit beyond cognitive testing alone.

Aerobic exercise training increased the volume of the hippocampus by 2%, preventing age-related decline in the organ.

Aerobic exercise increases heart rate and breathing, but does not make you unable to continue to function.

Amy Brodtmann, a neurologist and Dementia Australia’s honorary medical adviser, said the study’s findings showed dementia impacts several parts of the brain. This would alter the way dementia is diagnosed and managed.
