This Volcano Full Of Sharks Is About To Erupt

NASA Warns This Sulfurous, Acidic ‘Sharkcano’ Is About to Erupt – ExtremeTech

NASA scientists have warned that a submerged volcano full of sharks in the Solomon Islands may be about to erupt. The volcano’s name is Kavachi, and it’s part of the Pacific Ocean’s Ring of Fire.

The Kavachi volcano is one of the most active submarine volcanoes in the Pacific, NASA said. It was dubbed “Sharkano” after two species of shark were found living in its crater.

Kavachi is releasing noxious sulfur compounds and caustic acid into the water. Its summit lies about 20 meters (65 feet) below sea level.

A 2015 scientific expedition to Kavachi’s Oven revealed a vibrant ecosystem, including hammerhead sharks and silky sharks, thriving among reef fish in the caustic depths of the crater.

The many-talented sharkcano produces basaltic and andesitic lava, and produces pyroclastic clouds when andesite meets water, causing steam explosions and throwing incandescent bombs that eject ash, volcanic rock fragments, and molten rock.

The sharks in Kavachi’s sharkcano have adapted to their environment and live in iron- and sulfur-rich hydrothermal vents, where bacteria from the depths of the ocean still exist and have formed symbiotic relationships with hardcore hydrothermal vent dwellers.

The scientists who studied Kavachi noted that the extreme environment of the crater may offer clues to the types of animals that have survived past major changes in ocean chemistry. These current adaptations can give a glimpse into the pasts of these fascinating oceanic creatures.

Find Out What Hurricanes Will Hit In 2022

Above-average hurricane season forecast with several major hurricanes – CNN

NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center predicts an above-average hurricane season for 2022.

Forecasters predict 14 to 21 named storms, 6 to 10 hurricanes, and 3 to 6 major hurricanes. The 2020 and 2021 seasons both exhausted the hurricane name list.

NOAA Administrator Rick Spinrad recognized that the current hurricane cycle for the Atlantic is a busy one, with 30 named storms in 2020 and 21 in 2021.

The existing La Nia conditions in the equatorial Pacific create favorable conditions for hurricanes. This is a major contrast to El Nio conditions, which tear hurricanes apart as they try to form.

The Gulf Loop Current, a 600-foot-deep river of hot Caribbean water, is traveling farther north now. This is forcing warm water at deeper levels of the ocean to travel closer to the coastal areas along the Gulf of Mexico.

Eight hurricanes made landfall along the US Gulf Coast in 2021, six in 2020. Hurricane Ida spanned nine states and caused catastrophic damage in the Northeast.

The increased activity anticipated this hurricane season is attributed to several climate factors, including the ongoing La Nia, warmer-than-average sea surface temperatures in the Atlantic Ocean and Caribbean Sea, weaker tropical Atlantic trade winds, and an enhanced west African monsoon.

NOAA Administrator Rick Spinrad said that past storms like Superstorm Sandy remind us that one storm can impact lives for years.

NOAA’s Atlantic Oceanographic and Meteorological Lab and Pacific Marine Environmental Lab will use five Saildrone surface vehicles, uncrewed ocean gliders, small aircraft drone systems, and a NOAA Hurricane Hunter aircraft to better understand how hurricanes intensify.

NOAA’s seasonal hurricane outlooks are for overall seasonal activity. The 2022 Atlantic seasonal outlook will be updated in early August.

Good Samaritan Killed While Lending A Helping Hand

Indiana firefighter killed when stranded motorist he stopped to help opened fire, police say – NBC News

A police officer by the name of Zachary Holly pulled over to assist a motorist who had run out of gas. Firefighter Jacob McClanahan saw the officer with the motorist while he was off duty, and decided to pull over and help.

McClanahan also worked with the Harrison County Highway Department, so he was qualified to offer some roadside assistance to the stranded motorist.

Moore revealed that he was in possession of a knife when asked if he was armed with any weapons. The firefighter asked the motorist to place the knife back in his vehicle.

The investigation reveals that Justin Moore fired a shotgun at Officer Holly before striking Jacob McClanahan. Officer Holly returned fire, killing Justin Moore.

McClanahan, 24, was a volunteer firefighter and highway crewman. He will be deeply missed by his friends and loved ones.

Jacob McClanahan was murdered while stopping to render aid, and his GoFundMe page has so far raised almost $20,000 – more than double the original goal. He was described as an “amazing young man” and “a great asset to our community.”

Police said McClanahan was a good Samaritan who was trying to help.

Famous ‘House of Horrors’ Family Continues To Experience Neglect Despite Parents’ Arrest

Unsealed court documents reveal how ‘House of Horrors’ siblings were pressured into living in miserable conditions in a crime-ridden area after escaping their abusive parents – and told they’d be split up if they complain- Daily Mail

The Turpin siblings, who were freed from their abusive parents’ house of horrors in Southern California, have suffered a new blow. They now live in a run-down apartment in a crime-ridden area.

The Turpin’s adult children were taken to see an apartment in an undisclosed suburb by an employee for the Riverside County Public Guardian’s office. They were told the lease was already signed.

Parents David and Louise Turpin were arrested after one of their 13 children escaped. The kids had been shackled to beds, starved, and held largely in isolation from the world.

Police arrested David and Louise Turpin after finding their 13 children underweight and unbathed. They pleaded guilty to torture and abuse and were sentenced to life in prison.

Riverside County’s social service system failed in various instances to help the seven adult and six minor children transition to new lives, according to court documents. A private law firm has been hired to look into the allegations.

After suffering unspeakable abuse and deprivation at the hands of their parents, the 13 Turpin siblings were promised help to start fresh. Unfortunately, that help has fallen flat. The story of the Turpin children attracted an international audience, but some officials and some of the children are now speaking out to say they still face challenges.

The Turpin children have received $600,000 in private donations, but County officials have refused to provide ABC News with information about the trusts. Several of the adult Turpin children continue to live in dangerous conditions and lack meaningful access to basic needs.

Jordan Turpin, 21, told ABC News’ Diane Sawyer that she had no plan for food, health care, life skills training, or even shelter.

The Turpin family has had trouble accessing state and county social service programs and receiving donations following their parents’ arrest. The court appointed public guardian failed to file an annual accounting.

Attorneys for the children’s trust continuously advocated for services on behalf of their clients, but the urgency in providing these essentials declined once national attention ceased.
